The Philippine government, most especially the Department of Justice, ran after Teves for more than two (2) years but was not able to bring him back to the country through an extradition case victory. The former Negros Oriental Congressman is faced with several charges in the country including the allegation that he is the mastermind in the killing of the late former Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo.

Degamo and nine other people died from an attack at the late Governor’s residence last March 4, 2023. It came after several men barged in and launched the attack. The then-Governor and the other victims were brought to the hospital but they did not make it.
