COCOY LAUREL CAUSE OF DEATH – The actor has passed, and recently, his family revealed the cause of his passing.
Stage and film actor Cocoy Laurel died at the age of 72, and his family initially did not reveal the reason for his passing. He died on Saturday, June 14, and people quickly remembered the last time they saw him in public, which was during the wake of late superstar Nora Aunor, who was his love team partner.

Senator Robin Padilla grieved over Cocoy’s death and remembered him as someone who made great contributions to art and culture. He also reflected on his integrity and professionalism in their craft.
What was the cause of his death? According to his family, he died of cardiac arrest arising from multiple organ failure. He also suffered from chronic complications from a debilitating spinal injury, which he got during a theater performance two decades ago.
It wasn’t much of a problem initially, but over time, complications came in. This injury was the one he sustained while performing in the 2005 musical The Miraculous Virgin of Caysasay. It left the lower portion of his spine in fragments. He was advised to undergo medical interventions to improve his condition, but the actor, when he was still alive, refused to have surgical options.
Cocoy’s younger brother, David Laurel, shared in an interview at the Heritage Memorial Chapels, “He had an aversion to hospitals. He was traumatized by an experience and didn’t trust doctors. He was prescribed some painkillers, but over time, they wouldn’t help the pain anymore.”
Meanwhile, Cocoy was the former love team of Nora Aunor, and they appeared in the films “Lollipops and Roses,” “Lollipops and Roses at Burong Talangka,” and “Impossible Dream.”
Some of his biggest roles in theater included the Engineer in “Miss Saigon” and Jean Valjean in “Les Miserables.”
