Korina Sanchez shared her work experience in the broadcast industry
Veteran broadcaster Korina Sanchez shared her thoughts on the spread of fake news, especially on social media.
Korina has been in the field of broadcast journalism for four decades now. She is one of the most respected personalities in the news and current events department.
Aside from being a journalist, Korina also had her magazine show and featured different stories. She has interviewed a lot of people from different walks of life.

In a recent interview, based on the article in PEP, Korina Sanchez was asked if there was a time when she felt afraid during a coverage.
“I was following the drug trail. Saan galing ang source? Walang gustong gumawa. Napunta ako sa Ozamiz. Kuratong Baleleng. I remember, ako ang pina-stop ng management. Ako ang pina-stop. Kasi parang masyadong delikado,” she recalled.
Back then, these kinds of assignments were given to male reporters. However, Korina said that it was not a fearsome experience for her. Then, she recalled the time when she interviewed The Voice Season 26 winner Sofronio Vasquez and he mentioned that he was from Ozamiz.
“Tapos sabi niya, ‘Oy! I’m from Ozamiz!’ Sabi ko, ‘Oh! Kurating-Baleleng!’ ‘You know, Miss K,’ sabi niyang ganon, ‘You know, Miss K, I am proud to say that the founder of Kuratong-Baleleng is my grandfather!’ she shared. Korina recalled that Sofronio laughed at that allegation against his grandfather.
The Kuratong Baleleng was a notorious organized crime syndicate that was involved in crimes, trafficking, robbery, and gambling.
At a young age, Korina said that she was already had this strong personality already. “Malakas na talaga ang loob ko. Kasi parati akong naiiwan sa bahay, nagwo-work yung parents ko,” she said.
She said that she would go everywhere and her yaya would know nothing about her whereabouts.
When it comes to the spread of fake news. Ano ang insights niya sa paglaganap ng fake news? Kalat na kalat ang misinformation, disinformation, at malinformation sa social media.

“You know, unless Meta itself self-regulates the information that goes on online, there’s nothing you can do about it,” the veteran journalist said. She is aware of how AI can create that illusion. For her, no one can do anything about this until something catastrophic happens.
Korina mentioned that instead of putting discipline, Meta took away the fact-checking component. With this, the journalist said that all you can do is police yourself to ensure that the news you consume presents both sides and that double-checking is a must.
“Kasi ilang beses na akong napadalhan ng mga fake news na, ‘Ha?! Totoo ba ito?!’ Pag chineck mo, ‘Ay! Hindi pala.’ Hindi pala, di ba?” she shared.
For her, the best source of news is still television because there is a hierarchy of accountability. “So in television, if you get in trouble, you can get sued,” Korina Sanchez said. When it comes to online, she said that the best source I think still is articles with a byline.
