Vice Pres. Sara Duterte’s Lawyers Speaks on Possibility of Impeachment Trial Pushing Through
SARA DUTERTE’S LAWYERS – The legal counsels of the Vice President stressed they are “ready to confront the charges” if the impeachment trial proceeds.
Recently, opposition Senator Risa Hontiveros bared the plan of the Senate Minority to take a move on the impeachment case against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. She stressed that she and Senate Minority leader Koko Pimentel will move so Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero can take his oath as the impeachment court’s presiding officer in the trial.

On Monday night, Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero took his oath as the presiding officer of the impeachment court in Duterte’s trial. The Senate also adopted the motion of Sen. Joel Villanueva that the senators will take their oath as senator-judges of the court.
Previously, the reading of the articles of impeachment by the House of Representatives’ prosecution team was moved from June 2 to June 11. According to Escudero, the legislative branch will fulfill their agenda in line with the pursuit of the Marcos administration to align the government with the demands of the people.

The move to postpone the impeachment proceedings did not sit well with countless people. There are even several civil society groups that gathered outside the Senate building to call for the immediate start of Duterte’s impeachment trial.

Amid a confusing situation on whether or not the impeachment trial will proceed, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte’s lawyers said they “stand ready to confront the charges” in case the Senate choose to proceed. Based on a report on GMA News, the legal counsels of the Vice President also stressed that the trial should not be used as a political weapon.
“The impeachment process must never be weaponized to harass, silence, or eliminate political opponents. It is a constitutional mechanism, not a political tool,” Vice Pres. Sara Duterte’s lawyers said.

Based on the report, several college and university deans including those of the Lasallian Family, the Ateneo schools, the Adamson University, and the University of Santo Tomas joined the call for the immediate start of the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte.
Recently, presidential sister and Sen. Imee Marcos confirmed that Sen. Robin Padilla filed a resolution seeking to dismiss the impeachment case versus Duterte.
