Leyte Governor Criticized Over P3K Incentive for Winning Student-Athletes in the 2025 Palarong Pambansa
Leyte Governor Jericho “Icot” Petilla elicits online reactions over P3, 000 incentive for winning student-athletes.
Recently, Jericho “Icot” Petilla shared his photos with young athletes who won in the 2025 Palarong Pambansa proudly holding their certificates and rewards. The post garnered various reactions from the online community.
The students brought home a total of 10 gold, 8 silver, and 6 bronze medals for the Leyte Division, making the province proud. The incentive program gave P5,000 to gold medalists, P3,000 to silver medalists, and P2,000 to bronze medalists.

While many appreciated the recognition, some social media users raised eyebrows over the amount, especially the P3,000 given to silver medalists.
Some netizens felt the amount was too small, considering the hard work and dedication the athletes put in to bring honor to the province.
Most of the medals were won by athletes from the Leyte Sports Academy, which contributed 9 golds, 6 silvers, and 4 bronzes. The Leyte Division ranked 10th out of 281 school divisions across the country.

A total of 24 athletes were given cash rewards, including winners in athletics, wrestling, table tennis, and chess.

The recognition was led by DepEd Leyte, through Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Marisa S. Magan, with Governor Petilla personally handing out the awards upon request.
