Here’s What Aiko Melendez Said About Running for QC Mayor
AIKO MELENDEZ – Is actress Aiko Melendez setting her sights on the mayoralty of Quezon City?
Aiko Melendez, a prominent actress-turned-politician, has firmly established herself in the realm of public service. In the 2025 elections, she was re-elected as a Quezon City councilor, marking her second term representing the fifth district.
During her appearance on Fast Talk with Boy Abunda on Monday, June 9, host Boy Abunda asked Aiko if she had any intentions of running for mayor of Quezon City.

She responded clearly and directly: “Oh, no. That’s a very straight answer. No. I don’t see myself in the administrative area. I’m more on the legislative.”
Although she ruled out a mayoral bid, Aiko expressed that she now leans more toward her political career than her life as an actress.
The conversation shifted to the topic of controversy—something common in both politics and the entertainment industry. When asked if controversies in showbiz were easier to deal with than those in politics, Aiko responded, “Same lang ang gravity niya.”
She explained that while both fields expose one to criticism, political controversies often feel more personal. “Ang handling lang sa politics, Tito-ninong, they attack you personally. In show business din naman, now that social media is all around, they can always attack you personally also.”
Aiko pointed out that the consequences in politics are more significant, especially when public perception is damaged. She said a tarnished reputation could hurt one’s chances in future elections.
“Kapag ‘yung reputation mo is na-tarnish, ang sacrifice niyan, the next time around na tatakbo ka, medyo mahihirapan ka sa karera mo. That’s why for me, Tito-ninong, you have to be careful with your actions, lalo na ngayon, think before you click, ‘di ba? And before you do anything now, you have to think. Kasi ang tao ngayon is mas judgemental sila,” she added.

Aiko began her political path in 2001 when she was elected as councilor for Quezon City’s second district, a position she held until 2010. She made a political comeback in 2022 in the fifth district and secured another term in 2025.
