Actress and social media sensation Ivana Alawi has been at the center of the limelight after Dominique “Nikki” Benitez, the estranged wife of Bacolod City Mayor Albee Benitez, mentioned her name in the case she filed against the politician.
Nikki accused her husband of violating the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act (VAWC), which accordingly caused her severe mental and emotional distress. As stated, it has stemmed from Albee’s extramarital affair, mentioning Ivana, the alleged current one.
Previously, Albee issued a statement regarding the VAWC complaint through his legal counsel. The legal statement reflected his denial of the “baseless and retaliatory allegations” made by his estranged wife. They questioned the timing of the complaint, which came after he initiated annulment in 2024.
In the same statement, Benitez addressed the issue that dragged Alawi, and he found it “unsettling” to see an “unrelated third party” in the case. The politician called it a clear attempt to manipulate public opinion.
“This is a private matter. Involving individuals who have no bearing on the legal issues only inflames the situation and distracts from the facts,” his camp said. He warned that this move may violate Section 44 of RA 9262, which protects the confidentiality of all parties involved in such cases.
Section 44 mandates confidentiality of all proceedings and protection of all parties involved. He expressed his full cooperation on the matter and added that financial records, asset titles, and witness statements will disprove the claims made against him.
