Maalaala Mo Kaya received concerned reactions because of its episode about a family tragedy with an adopted child
The Kapamilya drama anthology Maalaala Mo Kaya released a statement addressing the adoption concerns from certain institutions because of the episode about the Maguad Family tragedy.
In 2021, the Maguads faced a tragic event in their lives. The couple was devastated after their adopted daughter murdered their biological children. This case was portrayed in the two-part Mother’s Day special of the longest-running drama anthology in the Philippines.

Another concern that was raised was from the adoption and foster care community, based on the article in Inquirer. For this community, the Maalaala Mo Kaya episode about the Maguad family may “reinforce harmful stereotypes about adopted and fostered children.”
Regarding this concern, MMK released a statement stressing that they recognize the issue that was raised foster care community. The show also said that the community’s voice matters to them.
“We understand that this may evoke strong emotions and concerns from the adoption and foster care community. We hear you, and we hold your stories with care,” the show stated.
However, MMK stressed that the Maguad case would never represent a lot of “beautiful and successful adoption and foster care stories out there.”

The Kapamilya drama anthology also said that it will continue to be a platform that is committed to presenting real and raw stories that could help Filipinos move forward better as one.
Maalaala Mo Kaya also reminded the public to be discerning in formulating opinions about adoption. “We encourage everyone to undergo the legal process of adoption and alternative child care to protect the welfare of both the adoptive parents and the children,” the show stressed.
