Isko Moreno Rules Out Higher Office in 2028
ISKO MORENO – Newly elected Manila Mayor Isko Moreno reaffirmed his dedication to Manila, declaring he has no plans to run for any national position in the 2028 elections.
Isko Moreno has made a firm promise to his constituents: he will not seek a higher national position in the 2028 elections. Instead, he vows to stay in Manila and complete three full terms as mayor, if given the people’s continued support.
In an interview with ANC on Tuesday, Moreno said his loyalty lies with the people of Manila. “I’ve committed to the people,” Moreno stated in Filipino, emphasizing that his political path will remain focused on local governance rather than a return to national politics.

Moreno, who previously ran for president in 2022, acknowledged the buzz from political analysts and social media users who speculate that he might run for vice president or senator. However, he dismissed such suggestions, asserting that his dedication is to the city.
“That is the wish of political analysts. It is only their wish,” Moreno said. “But I think I’d rather stay in Manila for the next 10 years, if given a chance by the people.”
According to the report, the former actor-turned-politician also underscored his long-term vision for the city. He revealed plans to implement a comprehensive 10-year development program focusing on essential needs like housing, education, healthcare, jobs, and urban order. “I have made a commitment to the people of Manila, especially to our grandfathers and grandmothers, senior citizens,” he added.

Moreno officially took his oath of office on May 19, following a landslide victory over outgoing Mayor Honey Lacuna. Their political history is notable: in 2019, Moreno and Lacuna won as a mayor-vice mayor tandem. Moreno later pursued the presidency in 2022 and endorsed Lacuna as his successor.
Now back at the helm of Manila’s local government, Moreno is setting his sights on stability and development rather than national ambition. His promise not to seek higher office sends a strong message about his focus: rebuilding and strengthening Manila through long-term, grounded leadership.
