Rey Blanco, the younger brother of Rico Blanco, dies.
Filipino singer and songwriter Rico Blanco earlier asked for prayers for his brother, and recently, it has been announced that the latter died.
OPM singer-songwriter Rico Blanco previously shared on Instagram his thoughts about his brother’s condition. Blanco asked for prayers for his brother battling cancer. With just a year gap between them, they grew up really close and almost like twins and “shared so many adventures and fought so many battles alongside each other.”
This was in January, and according to him, everything happened suddenly and quickly. By the time they were told about his diagnosis, he already had an advanced and very aggressive type of squamous cell carcinoma or skin cancer. He quipped, “I cannot bear to imagine a world without him in it.”
The signs came rapidly and “seemingly out of nowhere,” that it had already advanced when they started his treatment. He asked for prayers and support for his recovery.
And the day he feared has come. King’s death was confirmed by his daughter Daniela and Rivermaya drummer Mark Escueta on social media. He died on May 14.
“Our daddy King has peacefully joined our Creator,” the daughter wrote, and added, “We love you always and forever, Dad. Like you always say: Thank you, love you.”
The cause of his death has not been revealed. The viewing and interment will be private and limited to immediate family. His interment will be on May 20 at Everest Hills Memorial Park, Muntinlupa City, after the funeral mass at Heaven’s Park at 1 PM.
Meanwhile, Blanco is best known for his timeless OPM hits such as “Antukin,” “Kisapmata,” “Your Universe,” and “You’ll Be Safe Here.” He is yet to make an official statement about his brother’s passing as of this writing.
