Authorities Arrest 64 Suspected Flying Voters in Maguindanao del Sur

The authorities arrested 64 suspected flying voters during the 2025 elections for carrying deadly weapons and explosives.

On May 12, 2025 (Monday), authorities arrested 64 individuals in Buluan, Maguindanao del Sur, during the midterm elections. The group was intercepted along the national highway in Barangay Poblacion after a disturbance caught the attention of local security forces.

Upon investigation, it was discovered that none of the individuals were registered residents of Buluan, raising suspicions that they may have been flying voters people brought in from outside to influence the election results.

Buluan has been under special control by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) since April 15 due to rising tensions and a series of election-related incidents in the area. The arrest shows the efforts of authorities to keep the elections peaceful and secure, especially in areas marked as high-risk.

This operation reflects our commitment to ensuring a safe, fair, and credible electoral process. The presence of explosives and weapons among suspected flying voters is a serious threat that we will never tolerate,” Macapaz said.
