Vhong Navarro became a father at a young age
Kapamilya actor-host Vhong Navarro talked about what he went through being a father at a young age.
Vhong started in the entertainment as part of the 90s dance group Streetboys. From being a dancer, he was given a chance to do acting projects in TV shows and movies. He is currently one of the hosts of the Kapamilya noontime show.
During the height of Streetboys’ success, Vhong went through a challenging time when he became a father at a young age.
In a recent interview, based on the article in PEP, Vhong talked about being a young father. He said, “Bata rin ako naging ama. Tapos nung naging ama ako, ito rin yung ka-busy-han ko nung time ng Streetboys days.”
With this, he was not able to see his kid most of the time during those days. He had to get his kids’ favor because of that. Vhong had to exert effort to be closer to his sons.
Back then, he would just spend time with his sons during weekends. His son Freidriek was staying with his former non-showbiz partner, while his son Yce was with his ex-wife Bianca Lapus.
This was the reason why he would really give his time during weekends for his kids. “Kasi ang problema rin that time, kapag weekend, yun din yung shows, raket. Siyempre, kapag nagsisimula ka pa lang, di ka naman puwedeng tumanggi sa mga blessings na yun, so, kumbaga, kailangan mo lang sumunod sa mga kailangang gawin,” Vhong shared.
He added that this was unlike now because celebrities now have the capacity to choose projects and prioritize family time.
Vhong also admitted that he understands if his sons would feel “tampo” when they were younger. He explained that at a young age, his kids could have no ability yet to understand the situation. Fortunately, when the two boys were in high school already, most of the time, they were with Vhong.
At that time, the It’s Showtime host was able to fulfill his role as a father more. “So dun ko nabibitawan yung mga kuwento kung bakit pag weekend, minsan ang sumusundo sa kanila, yung lolo nila, hindi ako. Tapos pagdating nila sa bahay, wala ako,” he said.
His son Yce started following in his footsteps in showbiz. Vhong Navarro said that his son has experienced what it was like being in the entertainment industry. Because of this, Yce is able to understand how things go show business.
