2 Dead, 6 Hurt in Silay City, Negros Occidental During 2025 Elections
Two men lost their lives, and six others were injured during a shooting incident in Silay City, Negros Occidental on Election Day.
On Monday morning (May 12, 2025), a tragic shooting incident in Sitio Ipil-Ipil, Barangay Mambulac, Silay City, Negros Occidental took the lives of two individuals when unidentified suspects opened fire.
The victims were reportedly standing outside the headquarters of Team Asenso, a local political group. They were volunteers from Team Ugyon who were monitoring the area due to reports of vote buying.

While they were outside, a van passed by, and the suspects inside started shooting without warning.
One of the victims who died was identified as Rick Ortillano, a resident of Barangay Mambulac. The other fatality was a man who has not yet been identified. Both were declared dead on arrival at the hospital.
The six others who were injured were rushed to nearby hospitals, including the Teresita Lopez Jalandoni Provincial Hospital, and are now being treated.
Witnesses claimed that the shooter’s van was possibly driven by a barangay captain, though there are conflicting reports on whether it was Arnie Benedicto of Barangay Mambulac or Hazel Cordero of Barangay Lantad.
Police are still investigating and verifying the identities of those involved. Authorities also confirmed that the incident happened near a designated voting center, raising more concerns as tensions rise during the election period.

A hot pursuit operation is now ongoing to locate the suspects who escaped in the van.
Silay City Mayor Joedith Gallego reminded the public to stay calm and not allow emotions to escalate the situation. Police and election officials continue to investigate the motive behind the attack as they work to maintain peace and order during the elections.
