This is a reminder from Cardinal David about the conclave following the death of Pope Francis.
A papal conclave is soon happening to replace Pope Francis, and Cardinal David has this reminder to the people.
Pope Francis died at the age of 88 due to a stroke that led to a coma and caused his heart to fail. The world is mourning over his passing, and this Saturday, he will be finally laid to rest. Several world leaders have already confirmed their attendance at the pope’s funeral, which includes PH President Bongbong Marcos and First Lady Liza Araneta.
Following the pope’s death, which will begin 15 to 20 days after the death, a papal conclave is going to happen. This is the election of the new pope, and recently Cardinal Pablo Virgilio David left a reminder to the people.
According to the cardinal, based on a Facebook post, he encouraged the Catholics to “trust in the work of the Holy Spirit” and the College of Cardinals, who are in charge of choosing the next pope.
He added that creating or sharing campaign videos, despite the good intentions behind them, “risks turning a sacred discernment into a worldly spectacle” and may pressure or distract them.
Instead of doing this, he advised the people to pray for the electors and speak words of encouragement instead of endorsement. He stressed that Pope Francis was our role model, and “to walk in his memory is to keep alive his spirit.”
Cardinal Tagle is among the strong contenders as a potential successor to the pope. There are also cardinals such as Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Cardinal Peter Erdo, Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, Cardinal Peter Turkson, Cardinal Sergio da Rocha, Cardinal Carlos Aguiar Retes, Cardinal José Tolentino de Mendonca, Cardinal Raymond Leo Burke, and Cardinal Fridolin Ambongo Besungu.
