Recently, Mary Joy Pomares, a Facebook user, shared a heartwarming video of a woman who stepped in to help an elderly man struggling to buy food. The post garnered various reactions from the online community.
According to the post, the elderly man was trying to buy calamansi with only P30 in his pocket. The woman noticed him carefully counting his coins and decided to quietly cover the cost of his purchase. At first, the man hesitated and said it wasn’t necessary, but she insisted on paying.
Feeling that the man might need more help, she followed him after he walked away. She gently handed him some money, even though he initially refused since she had already paid for his calamansi.
The customer asked him if he had something to eat for later, and the man admitted he didn’t because his money wasn’t enough to buy a proper meal.
The woman then invited him back into the market and encouraged him to choose a dish he liked. He chose some vegetables for pakbet, so she paid for that as well. Still wanting to help more, she asked if he wanted anything else.
The man said he planned to buy a small fish with the money she gave, but she insisted on buying it for him too.
As they talked, she learned he worked as a painter and was waiting for his salary, which was why he only had P30 that day. Though not wealthy herself, the woman said she felt fulfilled being able to help, even in a small way.
