Expressing alarm over the number of lives lost—particularly among children—PNP Chief Gen. Rommel Marbil urged the public and authorities to exercise heightened caution, especially during high-traffic holiday seasons like Holy Week.

“These heartbreaking incidents are a painful reminder of how quickly accidents can happen. I am appealing to everyone: never leave minors unattended near water, always wear life vests when necessary, and avoid swimming in areas without lifeguards or safety supervision,” said Marbil.

According to the report, Marbil also called on local government units (LGUs) and resort managers to strengthen their safety protocols. He stressed the importance of having trained lifeguards and emergency personnel on duty in swimming and recreational areas to help prevent similar incidents.

With the influx of travelers visiting beaches, rivers, and resorts during the extended Holy Week break, the PNP is urging the public to remain vigilant and prioritize safety. The police also plan to intensify patrol efforts and coordinate closely with local authorities to ensure protective measures are in place in tourist destinations.

As summer activities continue, the PNP reminds everyone that following basic safety practices can mean the difference between a joyful holiday and a devastating loss.
