Ian De Leon confirmed the death of Nora Aunor in a previous article, and many hearts got broken over such a great loss. She will definitely be remembered for her great contributions to the music and movie industry. No cause was indicated regarding Nora’s death. She died at the age of 71.

About the PH cinema’s superstar
She was born Nora Cabaltera Villamayor in Iriga City, Camarines Sur. She was more widely known and celebrated as Nora Aunor, and her name resonates across generations and industries, be it in film, music, stage, or broadcast.
As a pillar, she’s been long hailed as the “Superstar” of Philippine cinema and was declared a National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts in 2022. This is the highest cultural honor bestowed by the Republic of the Philippines.
Her career started in stage plays. She then transitioned to television, and later on, started making films. She was called the “Grand Dame of Philippine Cinema” and was awarded a Hall of Fame awardee at the Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences Awards (FAMAS). This is arguably the highest acting award-giving body in the Philippines.

Aunor was the host of “Superstar,” which started airing in 1967 and lasted for 22 years.
As a movie actress, her debut film was “All Over the World” (1967) with Eddie Gutierrez and Rosemarie Sonora. Her other iconic and hit films are “Minsa’y May Isang Gamu-Gamo” (1976), “Bona” (1980), “Himala” (1982), “Bulaklak sa City Jail” (1984), and more recently, “Mananambal” (2024).
In 1976, she won Best Actress awards from Gawad Urian and FAMAS for the first time for her performance in “Tatlong Taong Walang Diyos.”

She scored a grand slam in 1990 for her work in “Andrea, Paano ba ang Maging Isang Ina?” Aunor received Best Actress awards from Gawad Urian, FAMAS, Film Academy of the Philippines, Metro Manila Film Festival, and the Philippine Movie Press Club.

- 21 Gawad Urian nominations with seven wins
- Eight Metro Manila Film Festival Awards
- Nine PMPC Star Awards
- Four Luna Awards

- International recognition from festivals in Cairo, Hawaii, and Tokyo
In 2023, she became open about her health struggles. She accordingly died for three minutes. She suffered from low oxygen levels, which prompted her to be rushed to the hospital.
She withdrew her candidacy for the 2025 midterm elections due to her health issues. On April 16, her death was confirmed, and as of this writing, the cause of her death has not been revealed yet.
