Tent Roof in Davao del Norte Suddenly Collapses During Graduation Practice

A tent roof suddenly collapsed during a graduation practice at Carmen National High School in Davao del Norte.

On Friday afternoon (April 11, 2025), a tragic incident happened during a graduation practice at Carmen National High School in Davao del Norte after the roof of a large tent-covered court suddenly collapsed.

The school was holding practice for its upcoming graduation ceremony when the unexpected incident happened. It was raining heavily in the area, and the strong downpour is believed to have caused the structure to give way.

Tent Roof

The tent roof couldn’t handle the weight of the accumulated rainwater, leading to its sudden collapse.

Marc Drei Ocampo shared the video of the incident on Facebook and garnered various reactions from the online community.

In the video, people can be seen shouting and rushing away from the falling structure. Fortunately, everyone managed to move to safety in time. No one was trapped or seriously hurt.

According to the witnesses, the heavy rains began just before the practice started. While the covered court was meant to shield students from the weather, it couldn’t hold up against the intensity of the storm.

Thankfully, quick thinking and alertness prevented what could have been a more serious situation.

Parts of Mindanao, including Davao del Norte, experienced scattered thunderstorms that day due to localized weather disturbances. The sudden downpour is common during the hot season and can cause flash floods and structural damage if strong enough.

Despite the scare, the school community is relieved that all the students are safe. Authorities are now looking into the condition of the tent and ensuring that proper safety checks are made before any future events.
