Group of Minors Vandalize Stations of the Cross in Iloilo

VANDALISM – A group of minors was nabbed after vandalizing several images at the Stations of the Cross in Iloilo.

Vandalism is when someone purposely damages or destroys property that doesn’t belong to them. This can include writing on walls, breaking windows, or painting over signs and artworks. It’s often done without permission and can affect public places, schools, parks, or even religious sites.

In simple terms, vandalism is when someone ruins something that others use, care about, or find meaningful. It’s considered wrong because it disrespects property, causes harm to the community, and often costs time and money to fix.

Last Sunday (April 6, 2025), a group of minors vandalized some of the Stations of the Cross in Alimodian, Iloilo. The incident happened at Agony Hill, a popular religious site in the town.

The culprits targeted Station 13 with its images and structures covered in black paint. Many locals were shocked and saddened by the incident, especially since the Stations of the Cross are important religious symbols, especially during the Lenten season.

These images hold deep meaning for people who visit the area to pray and reflect, especially as Holy Week approaches.

After investigating, authorities were able to identify six boys involved in the vandalism. Instead of facing harsh penalties, the police recommended that the minors perform community service.

The decision aims to help the young boys understand the impact of their actions and encourage them to give back to the community.
