In an interview with Karen Davila, couple Jhong Hilario and Maia Azores shared their love story and how they fought against the odds.
10 years of being together gave Jhong Hilario and Maia Azores a wonderful daughter whose name is Sarian Oceania. She was born in 2021, and the couple has been open in sharing their journey as parents on social media. Sarina is an absolute darling, but before she came to them, the couple had a roller coaster of a journey.
In an interview with Karen Davila, it all started in the Mara Clara remake. Jhong was the lead antagonist while Maia was an OJT. It all started with jokes and teases, but unexpectedly, things between them went on a different path. Feelings were developed, and the courtship, as per Maia, did not actually last long.
“I was always with my parents, I was so sheltered. Nilagay ako sa all-girl school. HIndi ako nakakalabas, hindi ako puma-party. Hindi ko naranasan ‘yung ganung experience. So that was the first time I was able to go out into the world, nung nag-OJT ako sa ABS-CBN,” ani Maia.
But being official wasn’t the start of their happy ending. It was rather the start of their fight against the odds and proving their love for one another. For one, their 16-year age gap became an issue for the parents of Maia. Jhong was confronted by the parents, but he made sure that everything he did proved that his intentions were pure.
For years, they fought hard for their places in each other’s lives and complied with all the rules set. Eventually, things had gotten better between Jhong and her parents. A decade after being together, they welcomed Sarina.
Meanwhile, in a previous article, Jhong sought the local court to legally recognize his divorce. He married a British lady named Michelle Westgate in 2005. They met when he did West End’s Miss Saigon. He was a theater actor while Westgate was a hairdresser.
The relationship was smooth at first, but the challenges came, and some of them a marriage could not save. It led to their separation, and now, years after, their divorce was approved, and he is seeking the local court’s recognition over the decision.
