Richard Yap tried his luck in politics but failed twice
Kapuso actor Richard Yap talked about his decision not to run in the May 2025 midterm elections.
Richard started his showbiz career late, unlike many stars. From doing an advertisement stint for a fast-food chain, he was offered to be part of the Kapamilya series Binondo Girl. From that, he was given an opportunity to be a lead star in a series.
That was in 2012 in the series Be Careful With My Heart. In 2020, Richard decided to transfer to the Kapuso network and signed a contract with Sparkle GMA Artist Center.

Aside from the entertainment industry, Richard Yap also tried his luck in the political arena. Back in 2019 and 2022, he aspired to be a congressman in the first district of Cebu. However, he failed twice.
In a recent interview, based on the article in PEP, since the May 2025 elections are getting nearer, Richard was asked about politics. “Masyadong magulo and mahirap actually, so hindi na muna…” the actor said.
Richard explained that as much as possible, he is staying away from politics, but there had been some offers. However, for now, he is doing what is best for him.
He knows that being in politics is not that easy, so for now, he is setting aside whatever politics may offer. Richard also said that he is happy with his showbiz career, as well as managing his businesses.

Meanwhile, Richard Yap is currently promoting the movie Fatherland starring Allen Dizon and Iñigo Pascual. Aside from Richard Yap, the movie also features Cherry Pie Picache, Mercedes Cabral, Ara Davao, Jeric Gonzales, Kazel Kinouchi, Rico Barrera, Abed Green, Jim Pebanco, and Angel Aquino.
Fatherland is directed by Joel C. Lamangan and under BenTria Productions of Benjamin Austria and line producer Dennis Evangelista of Heaven’s Best Entertainment. This is set to be released on April 9.
