Nicholas Kaufman Speaks on Former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte’s Interim Release Bid before ICC
RODRIGO DUTERTE’S INTERIM RELEASE – British-Israeli lawyer Nicholas Kaufman confirmed that they are “working on” the bid for the interim release of the former President.
Countless supporters of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte are calling on the Philippine government to bring him home. The Duterte family is also asking the Supreme Court to mandate the return of their patriarch who is currently under the custody of the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Former Pres. Duterte is currently in the Hague Penitentiary Institution. Vice Pres. Sara Duterte previously revealed that former Pres. Duterte was released from the hospital wing of the ICC detention facility and is now under a regular detention.
According to Vice Pres. Duterte, the former President is feeling better but they have a problem with regards to his soda in-take. The former Chief Executive wants at least two (2) cans of Coke Zero daily. The Vice President confirmed that he will have his supply of soda during detention.

According to VP Sara, she will set the legal team of her father before returning home to the Philippines. The Vice President stressed that she will introduce the members of the ICC legal team of her father to her brothers and to Honeylet Avanceña, the common-law wife of the former President.

Honeylet Avanceña and Kitty Duterte arrived in The Hague a few days before the 80th birthday of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte last March 28. Amid the detention of the former President, there are questions if his camp will file for former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte’s interim release bid.
Recently, Nicholas Kaufman, the lead counsel of the former Philippine President, confirmed that they are “working on” former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte’s interim release bid. However, based on a report on GMA News, they have yet to decide on when to make the application.
“There is a right for Mr. Duterte to be released. We are working on that, but the timing of when we intend to introduce such an application is yet to be decided,” Kaufman said.
Based on the report, the British-Israeli Lawyer explained that only three (3) factors may affect former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte’s interim release bid which the risks of flight, interference of witnesses with the evidence, and continuing crimes.
Previously, Malacañang expressed its stand on the possible interim release bid of Duterte.
