Antipolo Police Officers Received Recognition for Quick Response to Viral Road Rage Incident
Eight Antipolo police officers were honored for their quick response to a viral road rage incident that led to the arrest of the suspect.
On Sunday afternoon (March 30, 2025), Four people were injured after a road rage incident escalated into a shooting along Marcos Highway, Sitio Calumpang, Brgy. San Jose, Antipolo. A man inside a black SUV argued with another man on a motorcycle.
The rider accused the SUV driver of cutting him off and insisted that he stop. The confrontation soon turned physical, and bystanders stepped in to break up the fight. After a few moments, gunshots rang out.
The 28-year-old suspect, now in the custody of Antipolo Police, claimed he was in a hurry, following a convoy with his hazard lights on when a group of motorcycle riders suddenly blocked his way. He alleged that one of the men attempted to pull a gun on him, causing him to panic.
The suspect ran to his vehicle and grabbed his gun. He claimed, one of the men charged at him, leading him to fire his weapon.
A 52-year-old rider was shot in the head and remains in critical condition. His 22-year-old son was hit in the right arm. A 29-year-old bystander, who tried to break up the fight, was shot in the chest, while a woman accompanying the suspect was wounded in the leg.
The victims were rushed to the hospital, while the suspect fled the scene in his SUV.
Authorities launched a hot pursuit operation, eventually arresting the suspect at a border checkpoint in Brgy. Mayamot.
Recently, the Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Police General Rommel Marbil personally visited the Antipolo Police Station to commend the police officers for their dedication and quick action.
The quick intervention of the responding officers ensured that the suspect was immediately apprehended.
Authorities confirmed that the suspect is now in police custody and will face charges of multiple frustrated homicide as well as violations of the election gun ban. The recognition highlights the importance of law enforcement’s role in maintaining public safety and immediately addressing violent incidents on the road.
