The local authorities regarding the matter were already contacted in order to provide necessary consular assistance for these Filipinos. Earlier, the PH embassy in Qatar reminded the people to “respect local laws and customs related to mass demonstrations and expressions of political grievances.”

Regarding what transpired, the embassy did not provide further details on whether it was related to the 80th birthday celebration of former President Rodrigo Duterte. As much as we all know, the former president is currently detained in The Hague after the International Criminal Court issued his arrest.

To recall, Duterte was arrested for crimes against humanity allegedly committed during his administration’s war against drugs.

In a previous article, VP Sara Duterte asked for prayers for her father’s long life and release; he just turned 80 years old. He is celebrating while in detention, and being one of the most unorthodox leaders of the Philippines, he has done a lot of things and made remarks that became unforgettable.

He cursed then President Barack Obama and the pope, called God stupid, expressed that he would be happy to slaughter 3 million addicts in the country, and compared his war on drugs crackdown back then with Adolf Hitler and the Holocaust.

Moreover, his partner, Honeylet Avanceña, arrived in The Hague with Kitty Veronica. They are staying there to spend time with Duterte on his birthday.

On March 14, he had already appeared for the initial proceedings before the ICC Pre-Trial Chamber. The next hearing for confirmation of charges will be on September 23, 2025, and while he waits for this day, he will be staying at the ICC Detention Centre of the Scheveningen Prison at The Hague.
