Darryl Yap Posted Bail, Avoids Arrest Due To Cyberlibel

Controversial director Darryl Yap posted bail.

Pepsi Paloma movie director Darryl Yap posted bail for his cyber libel cases associated with the controversial movie about the late actress.

Previously, Eat Bulaga host Vic Sotto filed 19 counts of cyber libel against Darryl Yap for the controversial teaser of his Pepsi Paloma film that clearly mentioned his name in an accusation.

In the trailer of the Pepsi Paloma film, Gina Alajar plays Charito Solis and Rhed Bustamante plays Pepsi Paloma, and there was a scene where the former asked the latter about who abused her. Paloma was asked if she was really assaulted by Sotto, and her response was “Oo!” in a loud voice.

The Office of the City Prosecutor accused Yap of cyber libel under Articles 353 and 355 of the Revised Penal Code, violating Republic Act 10175, or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012. The trailer has accordingly exposed the actor to “public contempt, hatred, dishonor, or ridicule, or causing the latter’s reputation to be tarnished.”

Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court Branch 203 Presiding Judge Myra Quiambao issued the arrest warrant on March 19 after finding probable cause.

He was charged with two counts, and recently, he preempted his impending arrest. He posted bail worth Php 20,000.00 for his provisional liberty. The bail posted prompted the RTC to “recall and set aside” the warrant.

“The herein accused Darryl Ray Spyke Yap y Balingit having voluntarily appeared before this Court and posted cash bond in the amount of Ten Thousand Pesos (P10,000.00) under Official Receipt No. 9801245 dated March 19, 2025, for his provisional liberty and finding the same to be sufficient and in accordance with law, the same is hereby approved,” the court order stated.

Meanwhile, the arraignment and pre-trial conference on Yap’s ongoing case will be on March 26.
