According to VP Sara Duterte, here’s an update about the detained former leader.
VP Sara Duterte says father Rodrigo will stay at the ICC detention hospital facility and revealed his current situation.
“Para akong nasa hotel except hindi ako makalabas.”
In a previous article, former president Rodrigo Duterte described his situation amid his detention at the International Criminal Court (ICC). He likened the facility that he was to a hotel, but the only difference was that he could not go out.
Duterte, following his arrest, is now under the custody of the ICC. His arrest was due to the alleged crimes against humanity because of his war on drugs.
“I have to tell you: he is charming everyone inside. It’s his style, eh. He’s very friendly with people inside,” the Vice President said, referring to FPRRD’s current situation.
In an interview, the vice president said her father is “comfortable” inside the facility despite the cold weather in The Hague. The doctor did not release him for regular health monitoring, and they have already noted the medicines he needs to take.
VP Sara has not personally seen the quarters, but from what she knows, each detainee has their own room. She is not certain whether the detainees see each other along the hallway or during mealtime, but she was told by the former leader that it is comfortable there.
Has it already sunk in her father about his detention? Sara replied, “He said he doesn’t regret anything he did sa pagtatrabaho niya para sa bayan. At nakita naman daw ng bayan kung ano yung resulta ng kanyang serbisyo.”
Meanwhile, the next hearing for confirmation of charges will be on September 23, 2025. He will remain inside the ICC Detention Center of the Scheveningen Prison in The Hague, Netherlands.
