Rodrigo Duterte on ICC Detention Area: “Para akong nasa hotel except hindi ako makalabas”

Former Pres. Rodrigo Speaks on Area Where He’s Staying at ICC

RODRIGO DUTERTE – The former Philippine President described to Vice Pres. Sara Duterte the detention area where he’s staying at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in the Hague, Netherlands.

Former presidential spokesman Harry Roque has previously revealed that former Pres. Duterte is staying at a clinic of the ICC. According to him, the former Philippine President remains being monitored. Duterte is now 79 years old and has a lot of medicines to take.

Roque claimed that Duterte was previously given only the substitute of the medicines that he needs to take. Thus, his camp had his real medicines delivered at the detention facility along with slippers and socks.

The former President was arrested at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) upon his arrival from Hong Kong last Monday. The ICC released an arrest warrant against him over the accusations surrounding his administration’s war on drugs campaign.

Vice Pres. Sara Duterte flew to the Hague, Netherlands to support former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. According to her, she is the only lawyer in their family and also the only one with a Schengen Visa. She previously revealed that all their other family members are still applying for the travel document.

Inside the detention facility, only Vice Pres. Sara Duterte and former executive secretary Salvador Medialdea have visited former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. Recently, the Vice President gave an update about the situation of her father inside the ICC detention facility.

Based on a report on GMA News, VP Sara revealed that former Pres. Duterte is at the hospital facility of the Hague Penitentiary Institution. He is “comfortable” inside the detention facility despite the cold weather in the place now.

When asked if FPRRD goes through regular health monitoring by coming from his room to the clinic, the Vice President revealed that he was not released by the doctors from the clinic, thus, he’s staying there. Meanwhile, she stressed that the doctors have already taken note of the medicine prescription of the former President.

“Binigyan ng copy and records ang mga doctors doon sa loob. And they have taken note [of] the list of medicines. Alam naman ng mga doctor yun sa loob,” the Vice President said.

Based on the report, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte said she was not able to personally see the area where former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte is staying but he likens it to a “hotel room”.

“Ang sinabi niya sa akin, ‘Para akong nasa hotel except hindi ako makalabas,” Vice Pres. Duterte said on the statement of FPRRD.

Duterte has appeared before the pre-trial chamber of the ICC remotely. Currently, countless supporters of the former President call for his return to the Philippines.
