Family of Graduating College Student Who Dies in Camarines Sur Still Grieves for Her Demise
The graduating college student who dies in a tragic accidental in Goa, Camarines Sur had big dreams for her family.
Tatay Mike Ortinero and his family were still grieving after the untimely death of Sarah Jane Ortinero, a 24-year-old graduating college student and pre-service teacher majoring in English.
Sarah Jane passed away after falling from a habal-habal in Barangay Abucayan, Goa, Camarines Sur. Her father shared that she had big dreams not just for herself but also for their family.
Sarah’s classmates and fellow student teachers, including Ivy Sales, are still in disbelief. They had spoken to her just before the accident, never expecting that it would be their last conversation.
Based on the investigation led by PMAJ Ronald Brugada, Officer in Charge of the Goa Municipal Police Station, the accident occurred on the afternoon of March 3. Sarah and another passenger, both wearing skirts, were seated sideways on the motorcycle.
The driver, identified as Victor, explained that since it was already late and public transportation was scarce, both passengers decided to ride together on his habal-habal.
The road was uphill, so he drove slowly, but he did not notice that one of his passengers had fallen. The incident has raised concerns over passenger safety, especially for habal-habal drivers who often take multiple passengers at once.
Authorities had already planned to meet with habal-habal drivers to remind them about safety regulations and ensure they have complete documents. Tatay Mike is calling on drivers to avoid taking more than one passenger and remains firm in pursuing legal action against the driver responsible for his daughter’s untimely death.
