A contestant of It’s Showtime sparked polarizing opinions with this statement
It’s Showtime contestant Heart Aquino toured the Comelec (Commission on Elections) office on Tuesday, March 4, after her viral statement about the government agency.
The Kapamilya noontime show currently has a segment in which they feature beauty and witty women in a pageant-like competition. Just like a comment beauty pageant, contestants need to answer questions asked by the hosts.
One of the recent episodes of the show’s segment went viral. Unkabogable Star Vice Ganda asked contestant Heart Aquino to give her message to the Comelec.
The contestant apologized because she was not that knowledgeable about Comelec and she has not voted yet even though she is already 20 years old. Vice said that it was “bothersome” that the contestant had no idea about the agency.
This sparked various reactions online. Some bashed the contestant for not focusing on enhancing her cognitive ability and some even pointed out that government agencies are being taught as early as elementary.
However, there were also those who blamed this issue on the education department and how the current system is not optimizing the learning experience for the students.
Amid this issue, Comelec Chairman George Erwin Garcia invited the It’s Showtime contestant for a guided tour. This tour happened on March 4.
ABS-CBN News shared a video taken during the tour. The Comelec Chairman was joined by other officials in showing information about the agency. Some netizens who commented on the Facebook page of the said news outlet pointed out that there was no need for the tour to take place as for them, Comelec had to face more pressing issues than this.
For some, Comelec was sensationalizing the issue, while some netizens bashed the contestant for not learning about the Commission on Elections, when this is being taught to younger students.
