Sofronio Vasquez Stands His Ground on Joining Star Magic

Sofronio Vasquez Opens Up About His Bold Move to Star Magic

SOFRONIO VASQUEZ – Singer Sofronio Vasquez firmly stands his ground on his decision to join Star Magic, emphasizing that it was the right move for his career.

Sofronio Vasquez, the Season 26 winner of The Voice USA, justified his decision to sign with Star Magic, viewing it as a way to maintain his regional recognition while keeping international opportunities open.

Vasquez made history as the first foreign and first male Asian winner of the singing competition. He officially joined Star Magic for representation in the Philippines, coincidentally signing his contract at the It’s Showtime studio—where he first gained national fame during Tawag ng Tanghalan.

When asked why he chose a local talent agency instead of pursuing a U.S.-based career, Vasquez admitted he anticipated questions about his decision. However, he clarified that signing with Star Magic doesn’t mean he’s limiting himself to the Philippine market.

The singer recalled a conversation with his The Voice coach, Michael Bublé, who advised him to embrace his identity as an Asian and Filipino artist. Bublé, a Canadian who made a name for himself in the U.S., took time to gain recognition, and he encouraged Vasquez to use Asia and the Philippines as a foundation for his career.

Vasquez also pointed out that even past winners of The Voice have struggled to establish themselves in the highly competitive U.S. music industry. He referenced Sabrina Carpenter, who started by performing on noontime shows before rising to fame as an award-winning artist.

Addressing concerns about his decision, Vasquez reassured fans that his musical journey won’t be wasted. “People may just say ‘sayang yung effort,’ hindi naman sasayangin kasi I will do my music and craft here, and marami ding naghihintay sa’kin doon [sa United States]. Hindi ko lang puwedeng pagsasabay-sabayin kasi nag-iisa lang ako,” he explained.

He urged Filipinos to support and pray for his success, hoping that even greater opportunities will come his way. Vasquez also expressed appreciation for those who voiced concerns about his career path, recognizing their comments as a mix of excitement and worry for his future.

Regarding international offers, Vasquez revealed he had been invited to perform in Miss Saigon on London’s West End, potentially playing the role of Thuy. However, he said he would need to carefully consider the offer, given his already busy global schedule.
