Homeless Woman Savings to Thieves in Cebu
A homeless woman in Cebu City, who earns a living by collecting and selling recyclables, has been saving small amounts of money for the past ten years.
She manages to set aside only P1,500 to P2,000 per year, keeping her hard-earned savings in a bag that she always carries with her. Unfortunately, in just an instant, thieves stole everything she had worked for over the past decade.
The heartbreaking incident was caught on CCTV. The footage shows the woman sleeping on the sidewalk when an e-tricycle stopped near her. A man got off the vehicle and, seeing that the woman had her back turned, quickly grabbed her bag.
“Pinasok niya sa bag, para if ever mayroon siyang makain. Nangunguha siya ng mga basura nangangalakal,” said Brgy. San Nicola Proper Kap. Clifford Niñal .
Without hesitation, he ran back to the e-trike and fled with his accomplice.
According to barangay officials, the stolen bag contained around P20,000, which the woman had saved over ten years. She kept the money with her at all times, as it was her only means of survival.
With the help of CCTV footage, barangay officers were immediately alerted and attempted to chase the thieves. They managed to locate the abandoned e-tricycle near Ermita, but the suspects had already escaped.
“Iniwan na lang ‘yung e-bike sa may malapit sa Ermita, so parang delikado kasi ;yung location na ‘yun. so kinuha na lang ‘yung bag at iniwan na lang yung e-bike,” he explained.
Upon investigation, authorities discovered that the e-trike was also stolen, and the criminals had left the woman’s bag inside the vehicle. However, it remains unclear whether the money was still intact, as the victim was too distressed to communicate properly.

Barangay officials learned that the woman lives alone, accompanied only by an elderly man who is not related to her. They have assured her that they are willing to provide assistance to help her recover from this loss.
