Martin Nievera shared this story about Toni Gonzaga
Concert King Martin Nievera revealed that he and Mr. Pure Energy Gary Valenciano would fight over Ultimate Multimedia Star Toni Gonzaga because of this.
Martin and Gary have been in the music industry for several decades already. They are considered as icons in the music scene. Despite that fans might create competition between them, their friendship has been forged strongly over the years.
In a recent interview on Toni Talks, Toni’s YouTube talk show, Martin shared a funny story about him and Gary, involving the actress-host.
In the interview, Martin Nievera shared that he coined the title of the Kapamilya Sunday musical variety show ASAP. He was asked for the title abruptly and he asked if it was already needed ASAP (as soon as possible).
That was accepted and candidly he was asked to give a meaning to the acronym and he said. “All-Star Sunday Afternoon Party” and that became the title of the longest-running musical variety show.
Martin and his ex-wife Pops Fernandez were among the pioneer stars of the show and eventually, more and more artists were included. The Concert King shared that there were times when he and Gary Valenciano would fight over the Ultimate Multimedia Star.
“Gary and I would actually fight over Toni Gonzaga. Walang biro,” Martin said, adding that it was in a good professional way and jokingly addressed Toni’s husband Paul Soriano emphasizing that it was just for work.
Martin said that if Gary would have a duet performance with Toni, Mr. Pure Energy would boast about this. The Concert King would do the same to Gary if he and Toni would have a performance together.
“Palagi kaming nag-aaway for sino ang magdu-duet at kung sino magho-host with the Toni Gonzaga,” Martin Nievera shared. Feeling shy about the revelation from the Concert King, Toni said, “Grabe naman si Kuya Martin.”
