Joel Cruz, the renowned perfume mogul, recently shared heartfelt memories of his late mother, Milagros Martin Santos-Cruz, and the valuable lessons she instilled in him and his seven siblings. Milagros passed away in May 2021 at the age of 92, but her teachings continue to resonate in Joel’s life, shaping the way he approaches family and relationships.
In a recent vlog with TiktoClock host and actress Pokwang, Joel recalled the constant reminders his mother gave them about the importance of maintaining strong bonds with one another. “‘Yun ang maganda, laging sinasabi ng nanay ko na magmahalan kami, magtulungan,” Joel shared. These words, which his mother often repeated, have remained etched in his heart, guiding him throughout his life.
Joel further revealed that his mother used to tell them that not everyone would have an easy life as they grew older. She emphasized that those who were fortunate enough to achieve success should lend a helping hand to those who were struggling. This advice became a core value for Joel, and he continues to live by it today.
“Tumatak sa utak ko ‘yun hanggang ngayon. Lalo na may kapatid akong isa, ang dami niyang anak. Kaso sa dami na niyang anak, ang dami niyang apo. Sa dami nun, tinutulungan ko ‘yun.”
This sense of responsibility toward his extended family reflects the deep-rooted care and compassion his mother fostered in their household.
The bond Joel shares with his siblings is something he holds dear, and he describes their family ties as incredibly close. “Very close family ties kami. Kaming pito,” he proudly stated.
