Keempee de Leon was asked about the Pepsi Paloma controversy
Actor Keempee de Leon refused to comment on the controversy involving the late actress Pepsi Paloma.
The story and tragic death of Pepsi, Delia Dueñas Smith in real life, became a trending topic again online because of the movie by director Darryl Yap.
Because of this, the public has been recalling what happened more than four decades ago. This also opened up discussions about what really happened back then.
In a recent interview, based on the article in PEP, Keempee de Leon was asked about the Pepsi Paloma controversy. It is because he is the son of veteran comedian-host Joey de Leon who was one of the personalities involved in this issue.
However, Keempee said that he does not want to comment on anything regarding this matter. “I’m sorry, ha? Mahal ko kayong lahat, pero I’m not in a position to say anything about that,” he said.
He also stressed that he does not know anything about this and the beginning and end of the story. The actor expected that he would be asked about this issue because of the recent happenings that made it a trending topic again.
“‘Parang bubuhayin na naman nila yung isyu dati na yung tapos na yun e, na wala namang ebidensiya, kesyo ganito, kesyo ganun. So ako, I’d rather stay quiet kasi mahirap kasi, e,” Keempee said.
He was just nine years old when the controversy happened. The actor is wondering why there is an effort to revive the issue when years have passed already.
Keempee could not help but connect this to the political aspect. “Nung una kong narinig yan, sabi ko, ‘Bakit kailangan ba gawin ito, ano? Dahil ba eleksyon?’ Tito Sen [Tito Sotto], di ba, tatakbo?” he said.
Previously, Direk Darryl clarified that his effort to tell the story of his townmate Pepsi Paloma has nothing to do with politics and that he has “walang masamang tinapay sa TVJ.“
However, he stressed that he does not want to involve himself in this. Keempee de Leon also shared that he and his father are not talking about the controversy.
