Cat in Malasiqui, Pangasinan Dragged by Tricycle Driver Rescued & Now Safe After Treated
The cat dragged by a tricycle driver in Malasiqui, Pangasinan, has been found and is now safe after receiving medical care.
The incident went viral after a video showed the tricycle driver pulling the cat behind his vehicle while a netizen named Ken followed and called out to stop the cruelty. In the video, Ken pleaded with the driver, pointing out that the cat was visibly suffering. Despite this, the driver casually explained he intended to abandon the animal.
Animal welfare groups, including Animal Kingdom Foundation and PAWS, strongly condemned the act and urged the public to report such cases to authorities instead of just sharing them online.
The groups emphasized the need for immediate action to ensure the safety of animals in distress.
The 71-year-old tricycle driver was later questioned by local officials. He claimed he didn’t hear Ken’s calls due to poor hearing and said he had decided to get rid of the cat after it allegedly scratched or bit someone.
Brian Dave Austria, a Facebook user, shared updates about the cat, now identified as “Mingming.” He posted photos of Mingming and expressed gratitude to those who helped locate and treat the cat, including local officials and volunteers.
The cat was given immediate care at the barangay hall since local veterinary clinics were closed on Sunday (January 5, 2024). For now, Mingming is recovering and resting under the supervision of the barangay
Volunteers plan to bring the cat to a veterinarian for further treatment once clinics reopen.
