Sofronio Vasquez Recalls Past Rejections Before Winning In ‘The Voice USA’

Sofronio Vasquez did not give up on his dream

The Voice USA Season 26 champion Sofronio Vasquez recalled the past rejections he experienced before achieving his dream of becoming the champion.

Sofronio went through a lot before achieving the singing champion trophy. The Pinoy singer captured the hearts of the Voice USA coaches during the blind auditions.

He chose Michael Buble as his coach and he got all the support he needed from a mentor. Sofronio gave an emotional performance during the finals and the fan voting led him to the top.

When his name was called, Sofronio Vasquez fell on his knees while crying. In an interview with entertainment vlogger Lyndsey Parker, the Pinoy singer shared that he felt a certain relief and happiness. It was also a flashback moment for him of all the rejections he encountered in the past.

He also admitted that he was hopeful that his name would be called as the champion but he was not very assured that this was for him. Sofronio did this to protect himself also because even though other contestants thought that he would be winning, he was careful about what could be his response when this did not happen.

During the interview, Sofronio was asked about his coach’s statement. “Nobody in the whole universe besides you and your family knows what you’re going through,” Michael Buble said.

Explaining this with what he could just tell to the public, Sofronio said that he had the saddest and weirdest story and it was very tragic.

The only thing that I could say it’s political. But I am here, and now that I am able to win The Voice, people up above — I could say ‘people,’ because they are many and now they’re just angels — I know that they’re very, very happy with the situation, knowing the fact that I am able to bring a little justice for the family,” the Pinoy singer said.

Sofronio was also asked to elaborate on the “rejections” he experienced in the past. He recalled the time when he joined The Voice Philippines and no coach turned their chair for him.

Sofronio also mentioned that he auditioned for Tawag ng Tanghalan every two months. Because of this, the staff of the noontime show It’s Showtime already recognized him every time he auditioned. On his 8th try, he got in and he was thankful for the opportunity that the show gave to him and he was able to reach the semifinals stage.

Last year, after his father’s death, Sofronio once again tried to reach his dream to have a career in music. He moved to the US and auditioned for The Voice USA.

“It’s really me saying that even if you’re rejected 10 times, your life’s going to be moving forward,” Sofronio Vasquez said.
