SPD explained why a warrant of arrest was issued against Neri Miranda
Celebrity entrepreneur Neri Miranda reportedly failed to show up in court, which was why the warrant of arrest was issued against her.
On November 23, the Southern Police District served a warrant of arrest against Neri while she was in a convention center in Pasay. Allegedly she violated the Securities Regulation Code and a syndicated estafa complaint was filed against her.
In a statement released by her husband, Parokya ni Edgar vocalist Chito Miranda, it was said that the warrant of arrest came unexpectedly because they weren’t informed prior to this that a complaint was filed.
In an interview on Teleradyo Serbisyo, PMAJ. Hazel Asilo, PIO of the Southern Police District (SPD), was asked about the warrant of arrest. She said that the RTC released the warrant on November 16. They were able to have a copy of the warrant on Friday, November 22, and the next day, they served it.
When asked about the reports that Neri Miranda had no idea about the warrant of arrest, Asilo said that she couldn’t say that the celebrity entrepreneur did not know about this.
She explained that usually, before a warrant of arrest is issued, there would be preliminary investigations. Then, a subpoena will be issued that will require you to show up in court.
“Pag hindi po kayo mag-appear, saka po lalabas ang warrant of arrest,” Asilo said. She also said that based on the information that they have, Neri failed to appear in court twice and then, the warrant was served.
Asilo also said that this issue started in 2022 and two years have passed already. “Siguro po, alam naman na nila,” she added.
In a previous report, Neri Miranda’s legal counsel released a statement. Her lawyer stressed that Neri had been explaining her side regarding this issue even before it reached the court. It was also said that the complaints filed against her before were already dismissed.
