Don’t Keep the Scale of Right & Wrong Away from Idolatry of Politicians
Idolatry of politicians should not be allowed to keep on blinding people from those individuals who blatantly show like they’re above the law.
Truth be told that most of us Filipinos have our “idols” not only in the Philippine showbiz industry but as well as in politics. There are those politicians whose perspective match ours that they gain our favor without sweat. There are also those whose work is something that we highly want for the country.
On the other side of the spectrum, there are also politicians who gain our criticisms as we don’t have shared ideals — or due to countless reasons out there. Every election, many people openly share their views about certain people running for public office and there are those who are “solid supporters” of specific groups or individuals.
While everyone has the right who to support just as the right to vote, it is my humble hope that we don’t keep our eyes closed whenever the people that we have voted for misalign from what is clearly right.
What usually happens is we keep on defending the wrongs of the politicians that we have long-supported and admired to keep the ego from dying a hundred times over. However, this one is a defeat for the country, a defeat for what each Filipino truly deserves. There is a huge pride in sticking our support to what should be.
Undeniably, nowadays, there are politicians who show like they are above the law. There are also those whom we hear no record of good works ever since they were put into office. Who are these politicians if you take your Book of Idolatry away for a while? Are these the people you still want to vote for in the future elections?
It is my humble hope that we will be louder when it comes to pushing for what is right — much louder than how we are during elections as we convince more votes for the politicians whose ideals we admire.
Elections will come every now and then but placing the wrong people into office will have a huge impact on the country that may take years or decades to recover from. The Philippines need people who are choosing its welfare, who values the law over the politicians who make promises that were never fulfilled.
