The House panel that investigates the use of fund of the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Office of the Vice President (OVP) cited Attorney Zuleika Lopez for contempt for her supposed “interference” at the end of the November 20 hearing. Vice Pres. Duterte did not attend the said hearing.

Lopez as well as several other officials of the OVP denied playing a part in the release of the Confidential Funds. Duterte arrived at Batasan Pambansa late Thursday and visited the OVP Chief-of-Staff right away.

Vice Pres. Sara Duterte and Atty. Zuleika Lopez ended their talk at 10:00 p.m. The Vice President headed to the office of her brother, Davao City Congressman Paolo Duterte. She reportedly brought a pillow and spent the night at her office.

The Vice President reportedly asked the House panel if she could join Lopez during her detention. She expressed her worries over the OVP Chief-of-Staff having health issues. She wants to accompany her for her peace of mind so she can sleep. However, the request was denied by the House committee.

Davao City First District Representative Paolo Duterte also requested that the OVP Chief-of-Staff will be detained at his office but it was declined by the committee as well. Thus, he offered his office instead so it would be convenient for the Vice President to visit Lopez.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte claimed that the House sergeant-at-arms tried to make her leave the office of her brother. In a press conference, she claimed that they had a meeting and she refused to leave.

“Sabi ko, ‘Anong gagawin mo, bubuhatin mo ako palabas?’ Sabi ko, ‘I will escort you out of this office,'” Duterte said.

According to the Vice President, the House sergeant-at-arms told her that he is just doing his job and she needs to leave. She expressed that she told the House sergeant-at-arms that they will just leave it to his “boss” and the owner of the offer, Cong. Pulong Duterte, who are both congressmen.

Martin Romualdez

Vice Pres. Sara Duterte also claimed that she even jested to the House sergeant-at-arms. Based on the report, she joked that she might take over the House speakership.

“Yang boss mo congressman. ‘Yung may ari ng opisinang ito congressman. Why not elevate natin sa kanila ang pag-uusap? Baka pagbalik niya (Romualdez) sa Lunes ako na ang speaker dito. VP Speaker na ang tawag sa akin dito,” Duterte said.

Recently, Vice Pres. Duterte also encouraged the Filipinos to vote not based on the surname of the candidate but the track record. Her statement is tagged as a tirade against House Speaker Martin Romualdez who insists she should attend the House inquiry.
