Vice Pres. Sara Duterte Advises Voters Not To Base Votes on Politicians’ Surnames
SARA DUTERTE – The Vice President advised the Filipinos to not vote based on political surnames but on the track record of the politician.
Undeniably, there are several popular surnames in the political arena in the Philippines. Among these are the Duterte, the Marcos, the Aquino, the Villar, and the Estrada. In the case of the Duterte family, most of family members occupy a seat in the government.
The Duterte patriarch, Rodrigo Roa Duterte, is a former president of the Philippines who is running for Davao City mayor in 2025. Before FPRRD became the country’s chief executive, he has served Davao as its mayor and vice mayor for at least 20 years. Currently, Davao City is led by his youngest son, Davao City Mayor Baste Duterte.
Former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte is running for Davao City mayor with Baste as his running-mate. The former president’s eldest son, Davao City First District Representative Paolo Duterte, is seeking for re-election in the 2025 Midterm Elections.
Vice Pres. Sara Duterte is currently the Duterte family member that occupies the highest post in the government. She admitted that she came from a political dynasty but she stressed an advise for voters not to base their votes on political surnames.
“Galing ako sa political dynasty, obvious naman ‘yan,” the Vice President said as per a report on ABS-CBN News.
According to Vice Pres. Duterte, the people’s vote should not be automatic just because someone came from a prominent family in the Philippine political industry. She advises the Filipino voters to check on the capacity of the candidates and their track record.
Vice Pres. Sara Duterte also advises the public not to believe the campaign promises of the candidates right away. Based on the report, she encourages the public to check on the path of the political candidates and which promises a certain candidate made but did not realize.
“Pagisipan n’yo kung ano ang kapasidad ng tao na ‘yan bago tayo bumoto, ‘wag bumoto dahil sa apelyido… Tignan n’yo ang kanyang track record. Tignan n’yo ang path ng pulitiko na ‘yan, ano bang nabigay niya. Ano ba ang promise n’ya noon na hindi n’ya naibigay,” the Vice President said.
There are speculations tagging the statement of Vice Pres. Duterte as allegedly a tirade against House Speaker Martin Romualdez who stressed that she should attend the House inquiry and explain the use of the OVP and the DepEd Confidential Funds during her term.
