13-Year-Old Boy Accidentally Shoots Younger Sibling Using Father’s Service Gun
A 13-year-old boy accidentally shoots and kills his seven-year-old sibling using their police father’s gun in Manila.
The incident happened when the teenager found their father’s service firearm inside a drawer at home.
According to the Manila Police District’s homicide division, the teenager discovered the gun and, for unknown reasons, it went off. The bullet passed through a cabinet and pierced the wall into the next room, where the younger sibling was sleeping.

“Nabuksan itong drawer at nakita niya yung baril at sa hindi malamang kadahilanan pumutok po yung baril. Tumama naman sa isang cabinet hanggang sa lumusot po doon sa kabilang kuwarto kung saan natutulog yung kaniyang kapatid,” MPD-Homicide chief Police Captain Dennis Turla said.
The boy was struck in the side of his body. The family rushed him to the hospital, but unfortunately, the child was declared dead on arrival.
The father, a police officer, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of his youngest child. At the same time, he is gravely concerned about his older son’s emotional well-being after the incident.
“Nangyari ‘yan baka pinagkaloob ng Diyos. Walang may gusto nun. [Sa aking anak,] huwag mo sisihin sarili mo,” the father said.
He reassured his son, urging him not to blame himself for what happened, despite the circumstances.
The father also acknowledged how difficult it is for him to accept what occurred, describing it as one of the most painful experiences of his life. However, he may face administrative and criminal charges due to the accident, which involved his service firearm.
