Gloria Diaz commented on the Miss Universe 2024 performance of Chelsea Manalo
Miss Universe Philippines 2024 Chelsea Manalo was able to enter the Top 30 finalists and her performance in Miss Universe elicited a reaction from Miss Universe 1969 Gloria Diaz.
Chelsea represented the Philippines at the 73rd Miss Universe competition held in Mexico City last November 17 (PH time). Pinoy pageant fans have been anticipating that she will bring home the fifth Miss Universe crown for the country.
Although this goal was not realized, Chelsea was still hailed as the Miss Universe Asia 2024 because, among the candidates from Asian countries, she got the highest scores during the preliminary competitions.
In a recent interview, based on the article in ABS-CBN News, Gloria Diaz shared that what happened to Chelsea Manalo is just another step towards her future. She is hopeful that there will be something more for the beauty queen from Bulacan.
“Like I always say, winning or losing is not the beginning or the end. It’s only a step towards your own future, whatever it’s that you do. Chelsea is beautiful. I’ve seen her many times in person, twice, three times. She’s perfect but maybe today, maybe it’s not yet her time. The winner was good,” the first Pinay Miss Universe shared.
Gloria added that Pinoys are kind of spoiled because winning has always been the main goal. Thinking of the moment now, Gloria said that Chelsea is her winner.
Then, the veteran actress shared her thoughts on the new set of titles for Miss Universe candidates. This year, Continental Queen titles were granted, and Chelsea is the first Miss Universe Asia.
“That’s good. They are being inclusive so they want to do new things. In fact, I heard the crown was made here. Ako naman I’d like to go with the times but of course during my time, it’s always to be better than ever,” she shared.
Gloria also shared that during her time, it was just simple and candidates were not so pressured.
“Well, our prizes were good and our country was happy and that’s all that counts. And I worked and met many very important people,” the veteran actress added.
Meanwhile, in a previous interview, Chelsea Manalo shared that she is willing to explore the world of showbiz and hopefully would start her acting career.
