Despite their separation, Aiai delas Alas has firmly denied rumors that she plans to revoke the immigration papers of her ex-husband, Gerald Sibayan, in an effort to prevent him from gaining American citizenship.
Aiai, who has been a green card holder (permanent resident) in the United States since 2015, addressed the issue in a recent appearance on “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda” on November 11, following her confirmation of their split.
During the interview, host Boy Abunda asked Aiai about the status of her and Gerald’s immigration situation in the U.S. in light of their separation. Aiai explained that she had previously petitioned Gerald as her husband for a green card, a petition that had been approved. She clarified that Gerald was simply waiting for his green card to be processed.
“Ako, Ama, green card holder ako, and then pinetition ko siya (Gerald) as husband,so approved na ‘yun, naghihintay na lang siya ng green card niya,” she said.
The veteran host also touched on speculations circulating online, where netizens assumed Aiai might choose to revoke Gerald’s immigration papers after their breakup. In response, Aiai admitted that while she was initially upset by the separation, she had no intention of taking such drastic measures.
“Siyempre, ‘pag initial, buwisit ka, kung ano-ano ang nasasabi mo. Pero hindi ko naman gagawin ‘yun. Siyempre,husband ko pa rin siya and parang help ko na ‘yun sa kaniya para magkaroon siya ng legal status sa America,” Aiai said, emphasizing that her support for Gerald’s legal status was still intact despite their personal issues.
Aiai’s stance highlights her maturity and sense of responsibility, acknowledging that their separation should not interfere with the commitment she made to help her ex-husband secure his legal status in the United States.
