Ken Chan was formally charged with estafa
Kapuso actor Ken Chan was officially charged with syndicated estafa and the complainant’s legal counsel spoke about this.
Last September, a blind item surfaced about an actor who exited from a show and went to the States to allegedly evade arrest. Netizens were quick to guess that it was about Ken. His character in the recently concluded afternoon series Abot Kamay Na Pangarap was suddenly terminated.
Then, rumors surfaced that Ken received a complaint from a business investor as he allegedly stole the money. Some rumors surfaced that it was Ken’s business partner who took away the investor’s money. It was also rumored that a warrant of arrest was issued against the actor.
In a recent article in PEP, it was said that the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office officially charged Ken Chan with estafa for an alleged investment anomaly worth Php 14 million.
Reportedly, on November 8, 2024, members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) went to Ken’s house to serve the warrant of arrest to the actor but he was not home.
Atty. Joseph Noel Estrada and Atty. Maverick Romero of Estrada & Aquino Law Office faced some reporters to speak about this matter. They confirmed the case filed against the Kapuso actor and seven other co-investors.
The lawyers did not mention the name of the complainant but he is a businessman in his 40s to 50s. Atty. Estrada explained that it was in 2022 when Ken talked to the complainant and promised a profitable investment in his restaurant and whatever business venture.
The complainant gave Php14 million to Ken’s group but the profit-sharing deal that the two parties both agreed on was not followed.
“According to the complainant, hiningan [siya] ng investment ni Ken. Hindi naman sila authorized to solicit investment from the public. Using misrepresentation, fraudulent schemes, nakakuha sila ng pera sa complainant,” the lawyer said.
When asked if the money was personally given to Ken, the lawyer answered, “Sa kanya napunta yung pera.” The lawyer added, “I think base sa complaint, mga dalawang bigayan, in less than a year.”
As of this writing, Ken Chan has not released yet a statement regarding this his whereabouts are still unknown.
