Male Suspect Arrested After Robbing Taxi Driver and Stealing His Cab
INTENSE TAXI HEIST – A male suspect was arrested after allegedly robbing a taxi driver and stealing his cab in Rizal.
On Tuesday evening (October 29, 2024), the 39-year-old suspect identified as ‘Mark’ booked a ride from Aurora Boulevard in Quezon City to Angono. Once they arrived, he pulled out a knife, scared the 62-year-old driver, and demanded money.
The driver gave him P1,500 and some IDs before the robber kicked him out of the taxi in a dark area.
“From Aurora Boulevard, Quezon City, nag-book siya ng taxi papuntang Angono. Then noong nakarating na siya ng Angono, nagdeklara na siya ng holdap at tinutukan niya ng patalim itong driver ng taxi,” Rizal Police Provincial Office director PCol. Felipe Maraggun said.
Luckily, the driver managed to track his taxi using the car’s GPS. This allowed the police to jump into action and start chasing after the suspect. During the pursuit, the guy crashed into a tricycle in Barangay Halayhayin, Pililla.
Two passengers on the tricycle got hurt, and one even ended up with a broken leg, while the taxi also got pretty banged up.
By early Wednesday morning (October 30, 2024), the police caught up with the suspect. He admitted to what he did, saying he got into this mess because of his gambling and drug habits.
This wasn’t his first run-in with the law, the police discovered that he had been involved in car thefts before. He’s now behind bars at the Angono Municipal Police Station, facing serious charges for robbery, stealing a car, and causing injuries in the accident.
“‘Yun lang po ang sa akin, holdap lang po, wala po akong balak gawin sa sasakyan. Iiwanan ko rin po ‘yun, pang-getaway lang po ‘yun,” the suspect said.
