Leonardo DiCaprio Throws His Star Power Behind Kamala Harris
LEONARDO DICAPRIO – Actor Leonardo DiCaprio has thrown his support behind Kamala Harris for president, sharing his endorsement of the Democratic nominee in a video released on Friday.
Leonardo DiCaprio, the Academy Award-winning actor and longtime environmental advocate, has announced his endorsement of Kamala Harris for president. DiCaprio expressed his support for the Democratic nominee in a video posted on Instagram, where he highlighted the critical urgency of addressing climate change.
“Climate change is killing the earth and ruining our economy,” DiCaprio said. “We need a bold step forward to save our economy, our planet, and ourselves. That’s why I’m voting for Kamala Harris.”
Leonardo DiCaprio has been a prominent supporter of climate action, consistently advocating for policies aimed at addressing the environmental crisis. His past political involvement includes attending a fundraiser in early 2020 for then-candidate Joe Biden, hosted by former Paramount Pictures head Sherry Lansing.
In his Instagram caption, DiCaprio referred to recent hurricanes Helene and Milton, describing them as “unnatural disasters caused by climate change.” These events, he argued, underscore the need for urgent and comprehensive climate policies.
In his endorsement, DiCaprio praised Harris’ commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 and building a sustainable green economy. He also highlighted Harris’ role in passing the Inflation Reduction Act, where as vice president, she cast the tie-breaking vote for President Joe Biden’s landmark climate legislation.
Leonardo DiCaprio was critical of former President Donald Trump, who he said rolled back key environmental protections and pulled the U.S. out of the Paris climate agreement. He added that Trump “continues to deny the facts” and the scientific consensus on climate change.
With less than two weeks before Election Day, Harris has garnered significant support from high-profile figures including Taylor Swift, Oprah Winfrey, Meryl Streep, Chris Rock, and George Clooney. A rally held in Atlanta featured former President Barack Obama and Bruce Springsteen, and Beyoncé, whose song “Freedom” has become a campaign anthem, is expected at a Houston rally for Harris.
Meanwhile, Republican nominee Donald Trump counts several celebrities among his supporters, including Elon Musk, Dennis Quaid, Roseanne Barr, and Kid Rock. DiCaprio, who once met with Trump in 2016 to discuss job creation centered on environmental preservation, now sees Harris as the candidate willing to confront the climate crisis head-on.
