Niña Jose Faces Criticism For ‘Insensitive’ Post – Here’s How She Responded

Niña Jose Revises ‘ Insensitive’ Post After Criticism

NIÑA JOSE – Find out how former actress Niña Jose responded after her ‘insensitive post.

Bayambang, Pangasinan Mayor Nina Jose-Quiambao recently replaced a controversial Facebook post that some netizens found “tone-deaf” in light of their struggles with power outages following Severe Tropical Storm Kristine (international name: Trami).

On Thursday, October 24, the former actress addressed Bayambangeños to assure them that efforts to restore power were already underway. Quiambao informed residents that the Central Pangasinan Electric Cooperative (CENPELCO) had been working “24/7” to repair electricity lines damaged by the storm’s intense winds.

For those facing difficulties due to the power outage, she encouraged them to reach out for assistance or temporarily seek shelter at designated evacuation centers. Quiambao expressed her understanding of their situation, acknowledging that some households had urgent needs, particularly families with newborns or babies who might struggle without electricity.

“IIlan sa inyo ay sensitive ang pinagdadaanan, kakaanak lang, [may] mga babies din, konting tiis lang po, we are in contact with Cenpelco. If hindi [niyo] kaya ‘yung brownout po, pwede po kayo tumawag sa MdR natin and you can stay sa evacuation centers instead,” Quiambao said.

Her initial post, which has since been deleted, sparked backlash on social media. In her earlier message, Quiambao made light of the electricity issues, suggesting that people without power could take the opportunity to enjoy a “candlelight date” with their spouses, families, or partners. She also made an unusual analogy, comparing boastful or prideful attitudes with the behavior of storm “Kristine.”

These comments were captured by a pop culture page before the post was deleted, with social media users reacting negatively, calling the comments insensitive. While Quiambao’s attempt at humor seemed to backfire, she quickly took action to replace the post and provide a more supportive message.

Her recent post aimed to assure Bayambang residents of her commitment to working with CENPELCO for prompt updates and power restoration.
