Amid Typhoon Kristine’s Onslaught, GSIS Emergency Loan Offer Up for Qualified Members
GSIS EMERGENCY LOAN – The Government Service Insurance System said the loan offer is immediately available in areas declared under a state of calamity.
Countless Filipinos are greatly affected by the impacts of Tropical Storm Kristine. It has damaged several residential properties and livelihoods and many people are in need of financial assistance for their recovery.
Typhoon Kristine brought heavy rains and that caused canals to overflow triggering flooding. In Naga, the flood has reached a roof-level deep in low-lying areas. There were people who were stuck in the roof of their houses.
Former Vice President Leni Robredo previously appealed for pump boats to help the residents who were stuck for hours in the roof of their houses. Thousands of people had to evacuated for safety.
Many people lost their houses and livelihoods to Tropical Storm Kristine. This is where the advantage of maintaining active memberships to social insurance entities sets in. One of the giant social insurance institutions with loan offers that its members can turn to is the Government Service Insurance System or more popularly called GSIS.
One of the loan offers of the Government Service Insurance System which has millions of members across the nation is the GSIS Emergency Loan, a calamity loan offer. It is open for members living in areas declared under a State of Calamity and qualifying the following eligibility criteria for application:
- be in active service and not on leave of absence without pay
- has no arrearages in the payment of mandatory social insurance contributions
- has no loan that has been declared in default
Recently, the Government Service Insurance System assured that the GSIS Emergency Loan is immediately available in areas that were declared under a State of Calamity. Based on a report on GMA News, it is now open for those qualified members living in Albay and Naga City.
According to GSIS, they are monitoring the Bicol Region, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Central Visayas, Negros Island Region, Eastern Visayas, and Mindanao. Based on the report, the state entity suggests applying for the loan through GSIS Touch for the member’s convenience and a quick transaction.
“Once an area is declared under a state of calamity, GSIS will immediately make the loan available to qualified members and pensioners,” GSIS said.
The Social Security System or the SSS also confirmed the readiness of their Salary Loan offer for members who are hit by Tropical Storm Kristine.
