A father lost his life after drowning while rescuing his family at the height of the flood in Nabua, Camarines Sur.

Recently, Kristine Menulas Esplago, a Facebook user, shared the tragic death of her 75-year-old father Roperto Esplago who tragically drowned while rescuing their family during severe flooding. His family now considers him a hero.

On October 22, 2024, Roperto focused on his family’s safety as the floodwaters rose rapidly, ensuring they had a way to stay above the water level. He constructed a makeshift platform on the roof, where his family could sit and wait for rescue.

Despite his exhaustion and the cold, he tried to build a raft to help them escape. However, while working on it, Roperto developed cramps from the cold and was unable to swim to safety.

Kristine revealed that her father’s sacrifice allowed ten family members to survive the flood. Among those saved were her two children, two nephews, her mother, brother, sister-in-law, and two other relatives.

The lady netizen recounted how the platform her father had built became their only refuge until they could be evacuated to a safer location. His courageous act in a moment of danger has left a mark on his family, who remember him as their hero.

As of this writing, Roperto’s body remains at a funeral home, awaiting arrangements for burial. Kristine shared that they are still awaiting a suitable casket. Kristine has provided her contact number for assistance for those who want to support their family.
