Former VP Leni Robredo Speaks on Donations for Typhoon Kristine Victims
LENI ROBREDO – The former Vice President stressed that she and the Angat Buhay team do not receive cash donations as it will be under the “Kaya Natin” based on their policy.
Naga City which is the bailwick of former Vice Pres. Robredo is one of the areas in the Philipppines that are severelt hit by Tropical Storm Kristine. Former Vice Pres. Robredo previously appealed for pump boats to help rescue the flood victims who were stucked in their roof for hours.
Tropical Storm Kristine brought heavy rains and strong winds in several areas in the Philippines. In Naga, the flood got even in the ground floor of a shopping mall that served as shelter for evacuees due to the flood.
The evacuees had to transfer to the second floor of the shopping mall to evade the floodwater. The residents of the Camella Naga Subdivision also damaged their cars that were captured stumbling against each other after the flood subsided.
Signal No. 2 was up in several areas in the country including the Bicol region due to Typhoon Kristine. Thousands of Filipinos had to evacuate for their safety while the tropical storm damaged countless residential properties and business establishments.
According to former Vice Pres. Leni Robredo, many of the trucks that were used for passing through floodwater were stalled due to the flooding. The local government unit of Naga also called for assistance as they are in need of vehicles that can pass through flood of threee (3) to six (6) feet deep.
Former Vice Pres. Leni Robredo is one of the personalities who are busy in extending relief efforts and facilitating the rescue of her fellows in Naga. Her Angat Buhay team is also on the move to help the victims of tropical storm Kristine.
Amid the relief efforts of the team, former Vice Pres. Robredo clarified that they don’t receive cash donations. Instead, they give authority to Kaya Natin! Movement for Good Governance and Ethical Leadership, a non-governmental organization or NGO, to receive the cash donations for the flood victims.
“For all cash donations, we have authorized only Kaya Natin to receive for us para may transparency and accountability. Not one of us in Angat Buhay or our Naga Team will receive cash donations, as part of our policy,” the former VP said on social media.
The Kaya Natin! non-governmental organization and the Jesse M. Robredo Foundation opened a donation drive for the victims of tropical storm Kristine. Amid the donation drives for the victims, former VP Robredo reminded the public to not right away believe on those asking for donations pretending to be her or someone from the Angat Buhay team.
